London - Queen's Park to Little Venice & Beyond

London - Queen's Park to Little Venice & Beyond! On Saturday (the 21st July), Steve dragged me out the front door for a walk...and I mean DRAGGED! *chuckles* Anyway, I had recently started my job at Paddington, so I thought perhaps it would be a good idea to mark out the distance between home at Queen's Park and my work to see if it was feasible on whether it could be walked in a reasonable time. My work at Paddington, is positioned close to the station itself (a little walk from) but also close to the Paddington Canal. So we veered onto the canal from home and where the Regent's Canal (from Regent's Park) and the Grand Union (or Paddington) Canal meet is where you will find LITTLE VENICE. I've added a link to a map so you can all see for yourself ;o) http://www.maidavalevillage.com/maidavale.html Little Venice is one of London's Prime residential areas (apart from Mayfair). It is well known for its collection of shops and restaurants as well as the Puppet T...

Oxford - Day 2

Oxford - Day 2! On Sunday (15th July & Mum's Birthday), we awoke from a delicious night's sleep in our what seemed like HUGE Queen sized bed.. after slumming it in London on a double bed all this time! I should mention that we stayed at the HOLIDAY INN in Oxford, out at Pear Tree. This was a little way out of town and required a 10 min bus trip into the centre of town. Still, the block the hotel was on (and strategically placed next to a Travelodge for competition) was carefully thought out as they also placed a Shell Service station, a Burger King and a little restaurant that served breakfast, lunch and dinners during the day. The restaurant was a cheaper meal option for hotel guests instead of ordering expensive in house meals. After Steve and I hit the snooze button a few times and stretched repetitively we peeled ourselves out of our luxurious bed , checked out and headed to the restaurant for breakfast. We stuffed ourselves with a yummy breakfast of scrambled eggs, bac...

WELCOME TO OXFORD! Hi ALL! Been a while in between posts again, just because Steve and I have both got jobs now and we haven't been out too much apart from to WORK and then back HOME again... but more of that later at another post. On the Saturday (the 14th July), Steve and I hopped on a train and headed to the prestigious town of Oxford by train. We booked our train tickets online the night before hoping to avoid any drama's at the station the next morning. We got up nice and early and jumped on the tube at Queen's Park to Paddington Station, the home of Paddington Bear! Actually, funny enough when we got to Paddington, there was a little stand selling Paddington Bear memorabilia. Paddington Station is actually really HUGE, it has an underground part (for the Bakerloo, District, Hammersmith & District Lines) as well as an above ground part for the NATIONAL RAIL system.Paddington like Spencer St back home in Melbourne is undercover completely, it has a great big shoppi...

London - Concert for Diana & Live Earth

CONCERT FOR DIANA & LIVE EARTH! HELLOOOOO WEMBLEEEEEEEEY! Been a while since I put an entry into this blog but TODAY I felt inspired, as I sat and watched James Hetfield and Metallica perform "Nothing Else Matter's" live on LIVE EARTH 7/7/07. He really is as HUGE as you BOYS (and you know who you are! ) have implied... a BIG HUGE HULKING MAN in fact! I had shivers run through my body as they rocked out Wembley Stadium full of 65,000 people. Today LIVE EARTH is a warm up gig for the members of Metallica as they plan to rock Wembley Stadium again tomorrow night for their current tour. They also belted out SAD BUT TRUE and ENTER SANDMAN...For some of you sitting here reading this blog, it's probably like Pfft.. Metallica... WHATEVER you can't appreciate ROCK AND/OR ROLL! I switched on the box here to be greeted by Phil Collins and Genesis bringing Wembley their finest hits, followed by SNOW PATROL, BLACK EYED PEAS, DURAN DURAN (for the second time in a week), RED...
