London : Madame Tussaud's!
London : Madame Tussaud's!
Sunday (March 16th),Steve and I thought that we should spend what weekends we have left in London completing some of the cliche touristy things that ought to be done! It's kind of strange we are now on the home stretch of our London visit. When we got here and we thought we would have plenty of time to see all the wonderful things that London has to offer.. PLENTY OF TIME! Well, here we are 3 weeks away and we haven't been to Madame Tussaud's (OK NOW we have!), Tate Modern, Tate Britain, Tower of London and the Science Museum. Suddenly, its a MAD rush! Who would have thought that we would run out of time in London!
On this particular Sunday, we thought it would be a fabulous idea to pay tribute to the woman who thought it would be cool to make wax figures of famous people and put them on display for everyone to see! Firstly, the place will put two people out a total of £50 plus £5 for the guide! Not within reach for the average impoverished Aussie tourist (or any other tourist) for that matter. THEN, you have to contend with standing in line for ticket purchase for I swear an hour and half... for the amount of money this place costs to visit, it is remarkably popular. Maybe just everyone had the same thought we did on the day to go do an indoor activity because it was windy, cold and miserable in London as it seems to be 365 days of the year. ;o(
Secondly, the place is horrendously busy! You would think there would be a limit on the number of people they let into that place. Either that or we just chose a crap day to visit. There were heaps of kids wandering in between their Hollywood/Sporting idols and as many adults trying to get photographic memorabilia with their children or solely for themselves. After a while I gave up the thought of getting any pictures we me in them. Battling the crowds just seemed too hard. As I passed wax figure after wax figure I patiently stood around and clicked my camera and sneakily squeezed in shots here and there. Some successfully and others with random strangers in them. Groupies or Fans!
Nevertheless, I was suitably impressed with some of the figures and others not so. Some of them still looked a little unrealistic. Maybe I am being to critical after all I can't do a better job so I'll leave it up to you to make up your mind as you flick through our photographs. We did get a couple of shots with us in it. For Steve it was compulsory to get a shot with his favourite Star Trek Captain and me with one of my rock idols Freddy Mercury.. coz we are the Champions of the World! I would have liked them to have wax figures of Mike Patton or Chris Cornell or my favourite Foo Fighter - Dave Grohl....but Freddy Mercury was very worthy of being immortilised in wax.
The whole experience seemed long (with the queue up for tickets) and tiring, lucky I had been smart enough in my thinking to take a 1.5L bottle of water in with us and of course the old favourite MARS BAR for drinking and snacking. Otherwise I think we would have been feeling a little more cranky! Steve and I completed our Madame Tussaud's experience around 5pm and decided we'd had enough, were hungry and required nutrition! On exit, the Pizza Express across the road called to us so we gave into temptation and stuffed our already round tums with our delicious Italian favourite!
