The BLOG is BACK!
 
The blog is back - after a long hiatus or perhaps from your point of view, a large time frame of sheer procrastination since 2008. We never got around to finishing our blog from the big European Tour of 2008 which lasted from early April right up until October. A lot has happened since then - a hell of a lot of time has passed and well somehow have found ourselves on some level completely different people. Where to start?
 
This trip has somewhat been a long time in the making or at least it has been in the back of our minds for some years. I've always wanted to go to Japan since I was a teenager, Steve (and myself to some small degree) has always had South America in his dreams or plans. So here we are...  Circumstances have perhaps pushed this trip forward a bit and  partly the need to get  to Poland to visit family has somewhat inspired us to go crazy (and quite honestly - we never seem to do things by halves when we travel!)

Just to give everyone a heads up about HOW WE TRAVEL just in case you didn't get into our last blog - we tend to cram in as much as we can into trips, see as much as we can possibly see and cover as much territory as humanly possible in the time allocated. In Europe we covered around 60 cities in six and a half months, exactly 194 days. When we visited the USA in 2011, we had 3 weeks due to Steve being limited in the amount of leave he could take - in that trip we covered 9 cities and snuck into Canada (Vancouver) as well. 

What we have found in the last couple of trips we had our memories are starting to fade about all our experiences as we have tried to recall certain details about certain moments. Of course the each of us has different long term memories of our trips and Steve and I remembered different details along the way but at the end of the day its still not enough. As much as access to WIFI permits - we'll keep uploading these blogs, two reasons for ourselves and our terrible memories  but also for you folk who can then follow us along the journey.

I'm writing this particular blog on the second of May, 2013. I've dated it the 30th of April as I have wanted to touch base with you all and put down an introduction leading up to this marvellous adventure that we have just started. So hang onto your hats people its going to be a bumpy ride!

I did want to say that we live in an exceptionally beautiful and fortunate country. On the flight to Japan just as we left Cairns I had the most fortunate moment of viewing our spectacular GREAT BARRIER REEF from the air. We did go to the Whitsundays in September of 2012 but it was the one thing we did not get to do during our visit was fly over the reef. I got my wish - it was really remarkable and a memory I will treasure for a long time to come!

Paris : Le Tour Eiffel!

Paris : Le Tour Eiffel! On Tuesday morning (18th September) Steve and I checked out of our hotel at Garè De Nord and migrated our belongings to our new home for the day/night at a hotel near Garè De Lyon. On arrival we discovered that the dècor in our new hotel was particularly girly... purple infact! LOL.. oh well after a few hours I figured we wouldn't even notice the colour of the walls! After a little rest in our new hotel room, Steve and I set out on foot for our daily dose of exercise and a visit to the Eiffel Tower. That particular day Paris gave us some nice cool weather (after our drenching the night before), I found myself rugging up in a couple of layers. London - British Museum

British Museum! On Saturday (9th June), Steve and I after a nice lazy lie in which is an Australian tradition on Saturdays.. *yawns and stretches* we took ourselves to the British Museum! Obviously, this post is a bit out of date, but to keep the time line real of when we actually went, I'll keep the date of this post as the 9th June. Right, so we finally made it to the museum around 2:30pm in the afternoon, giving us 3 hours before they closed their big doors! We were first overwhelmed by its architecture just from the outside, we hadn't even made it inside yet. In 1794, the museum acquired something called Montagu House, in Bloomsbury and it remains on this site today. The Great South Front of the museum, was designed with inspiration from Greek Architecture by Sir Robert Smirke in 1823, but not completed until almost 30 yrs later. London - Covent Garden, Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus!

Covent Garden, Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus! On Wednesday (the 6th June), Steve and I found took ourselves to Covent Garden for a pre-arranged meeting with another mysterious internet friend. Turns out Joel wasn't so mysterious after all and really friendly! After some confusion on my part on the tube, we made it to covent garden late and really HUNGRY! Covent gardens being an area we were not familiar with, Joel took us to the market square for lunch, which is really rich in fabulous places to eat. Opting for Italian Cuisine, Steve and I ordered our favourite dishes and before I had a chance to blink my eyes, Steve's plate was empty! ;o) It was very busy in the Covent Garden market square, they had several stalls relating to their promotion of Malaysia Week 07. They had some lovely cultural stalls with Malaysian made traditional clothes, jewellery, and some ladies weaving big rugs of sorts.
