Destination : Paris to Brugge!
Destination : Paris to Brugge!
Tuesday, the 15th April. Steve and I checked out of St Christopher's Inn and took ourselves to Gare De Nord to catch another TGV train towards Lille Europe. At Lille Europe, we were transferring to Lille Flandres (another station just down the road) onto a local train to Brugge, Belgium.
At Lille, Steve and I had a couple of hours to kill before our connection from Lille Flandres to Brugge. We had hoped to find a luggage locker and get our stuff off our hands so we could have a quick look around town and find some lunch as well. Unfortunately Lille didn't oblige us in that retrospect so we ended up camping out in the McDonald's in the station utilising a little of their free WIFI, having a little munch...and reading some literature.
On arrival at Brugge, as a general rule Steve and I wandered around a little bit in a circle trying to find our hostel "The Lybeer". When we did finally find it, we found the folk there to be really friendly offering us a map of the town, a couple of vouchers and free WIFI in the place. The other thing we were greeted with was an insanely narrow and steep staircase and three floors to drag our luggage up to reach our room! When we finally hit our room, as expected Steve fell into a heap and practically unconscious in his bed from being up to 4:30am the night before researching our German leg of the tour. I was not surprised at him flaking out and went downstairs to play on the internet while Steve caught up on a couple hours of rest.
While downstairs and passing the from reception desk I was asked if we were going to join them for a cooked dinner downstairs for 5 Euro's each. On the menu - Nachos! I thought YUM...and when I ran the idea past Steve he didn't object either. So that is what we did, we joined a number of other people staying in the hostel for a nice nacho dinner. It was actually pretty tasty...I only maybe had a small scoop of the meat nachos and opted for a larger portion of the vegetarian ones. They were slightly cool in the middle, which I didn't think much of...and really should have known better with my sensitive stomach to eat as much as I did. After dinner, I felt really full and we enjoyed one of the other male residents play us a tune on the piano - My Immortal by Evanescence!
After our little musical entertainment, still feeling full Steve and I decided to head out for a short walk (as there was enough light) and maybe find the 'T Biertije pub which had a reputation of having a menu of 250 beers. Steve had some beer that he pointed out on the menu to the nice waitress...while I indulged in a cherry beer. At the pub, we met a couple of American chaps and chatted to them quite extensively about their travels and where they were heading next. Funny enough, one of them was staying in our hostel....
About 20 mins after finishing my Cherry Beer I started to feel a bit ill... and urged Steve that we should head back to the hostel...and just as well we did. Shortly after arriving back to the hostel I felt violently ill and suddenly my body decided to remove the entire nights dinner and beer in one foul motion.... I KNOW... but suddenly I felt better and crawled into bed to try and get a goodnight's sleep so we could explore the town the next day.
Unfortunately, that didn't happen for me..and I found myself racing back and forth to the loo all night. Shocking really....... I've had the occasional sensitive stomach... but REALLY! I blamed the nachos... I think they were not cooked properly.... either way... Steve didn't really know I was sick until the next morning, because I had come in and out of the room as quietly as possible throughout the night...
Until Tomorrow....
