London : Greenwich Mean Time!

London : Greenwich Mean Time!

Monday (7th April), was our last full day in London. Today, the weather was not as welcoming after the snow fall the night before. We awoke to a chilly start to the day, but our bed hadn't been so kind to us. We discovered overnight that it was much smaller than what we had become accustomed to in our flat in Willesden Green. It was also very soft and we found ourselves sinking into the middle. I think by around 8am, Steve and I had enough of our hotel room bed and decided to get up and get ourselves down to the breakfast that had been included in our overnight cost.

After a deliscious brekafast, Steve and I headed back up to our room to finalise a few final things.. Today, we decided to have a look around the South East side of town. Take ourselves to Canary Wharf and check out the financial district of town and then to Greenwich to the Observatory and the Prime Meridian Line (dividing the East and Western Hemispheres).

During our time in London, we have both spent considerable amounts of time on the tube together and separately and have been on just about every line. Apart from the Victoria Line , we hadn't utilised the DLR (Docklands Light Railway). Since we needed to get to a bank, a postoffice and a pawnbroker, we found ourselves in Lewisham today, because the high St seemed to have all of those close together and close to Greenwich where we wanted to go later in the afternoon.

After a quick lunch and completing all our set finalisation tasks, Steve and I jumped on the DLR back to Greenwich to have a look around the Naval College, Maritime Museum and the Royal Observatory. By the time we reached Greenwich, we realised it was almost 4pm. We had to make a decision to prioritise the Royal Observatory first as that was were the Greenwich Prime Meridian was located. We figured that if we did one final thing in London, that this would be it... as the entire world depends on Greenwich Mean Time. The observatory museum was quite interesting, but the chill factor in the air had really gotten under my skin today and all I could think about was getting back to our hotel room and getting all warm and cosy...

The sun did make a short appearance today, but not enough to warm the air significantly. From Greenwich it was a relatively short walk back to North Greenwich. Along the way, Steve and I picked up our dinner at Tesco... its amazing what you can achieve when you have a kettle and hot water. We picked up a couple noodle cups and a salad and some juice.. and voila! Dinner Served ;o). When we returned to the hotel room, we did a last repack of our cases in preparation for our flight over to Grenoble by Ezy Jet the following day.....
